Everyone starts somewhere!

Where am I starting? In Portland, ME. This is my first ever travel nurse position and I couldn’t be more thrilled about where I landed. Especially because its winter. A real winter! Something I haven’t experienced in a long time. I told my recruiter I wanted to go someplace cold and boy did she come through. (Thanks Chae! You are the best!) Portland is a charming city. The waterfront, the shopping, the snow, the lobster. What more could a northern girl ask for? My contract runs through July so I will experience some of summer here as well. Lobster, lobster and more lobster!

So what is a travel nurse? For those of you who aren't familiar, a travel nurse is someone who travels to a hospital or other healthcare facility in need of staff, to provide care for patients. Doctors, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants and respiratory therapists also travel to fill in when staff is needed. We work temporary posts (usually 13-26 weeks, sometimes longer) so that safe care can always be provided. I happen to be a NICU nurse and this blog will be where I record my adventures and all the things I learn as I travel to different locations around the country. I'll post tips and tricks I learn along the way as well as insights into what it's like to be a travel nurse and my favorite things to do and see in the locations I visit.

If you are following along and have questions or have advice you would like to give, please feel free to contact me!

Ok. Well, I am off to find some of that yummy lobster Maine is famous for. Did I mention I like lobster? I'll post again after I finish my first week in my new postition!
